Study Permit은 외국인 학생이 캐나다 교육기관에서 학업을 할 수 있도록 허가해주는 문서로 원칙적으로 유효한 비자와 함께 출국 전 신청을 모두 마치시고 캐나다 도착 후 공항 이민국에서 발급 받을 수 있습니다. 그렇지 않을 경우, 캐나다 이민성 웹사이트에 따른 다음 두 가지 경우 현지에서 스터디 퍼밋 신청이 가능합니다.

1. ETA로 입국 시 이민국에서 스터디 퍼밋과 학생비자를 발급받지 못한 경우 : 아래 의 조건에 한가지가 충족되실 경우에만 현지에서 스터디 퍼밋 신청이 가능합니다. 충족되는 점이 없다면 스터디 퍼밋 신청은 캐나다 이외의 국가(Outside Canada) 에서 신청하시어 재입국해야 하는 점 참고 부탁 드립니다.

Only some people can apply for a study permit from inside Canada. You’re currently in Canada and one of these applies:

1. you have a valid study or work permit

2. your spouse, common-law partner or parent has a valid study or work permit

3. you’re a minor child in primary or secondary school

4. you’re an exchange student or visiting student

**5. you completed a short-term course or study program required to be accepted at a DLI**

6. you or your spouse, common-law partner or dependent child has a temporary resident permit (TRP) valid for 6 months or more

7. you’re being sponsored to immigrate and you already applied for permanent residence (if you’re eligible)

8. you or your spouse, common-law partner or dependent child are subject to an unenforceable removal order

9. you’re the spouse, common-law partner or dependent child of:

ㄴan athlete on a team based in Canada

ㄴa member of the media

ㄴa member of the clergy

ㄴmilitary personnel on duty in Canada or

ㄴan accredited foreign representative

2. CIC (Immigration and Citizenship) Guide 5552 에 따르면 Persons whose study permits were authorized by a visa office abroad, where the permit was not issued at a port of entry can apply for a study permit from within Canada. (이민국으로부터 스터디 퍼밋을 승인 받았으나 캐나다 입국 시 발급되지 않은 자) 의 경우 현지에서 스터디 퍼밋 신청이 가능하십니다.

더불어, ETA로 입국하시면 6개월까지 학업이 가능합니다. 그렇기 때문에, ETA로 입국 후 최소 8주 이상의 DLI(Designated Learning Institution 학생 비자 발급이 가능한 교육기관)에서 짧은 기간이라도 학업하신 후 현지에서 스터디 퍼밋을 신청하시는 방법이 있습니다. (*위 별첨 5번을 참고해주시기 바랍니다.) 따라서 rararra 님께서 학업하고자 하는 학교가 DLI에 해당되는지 확인하시어 학업을 계획하시기 바랍니다. 또한, 현재 코로나사태로 인하여 학생비자소지자 및 방문비자/ETA 소지자도 필수적 목적 방문이 아니라면 입국 규제가 적용되고 있는 중인 점 참고 부탁 드립니다.
